Minecraft’s entire trading economy is based on emeralds. Emeralds act as the only currency in the game and are used for trading with both villagers and wandering traders. Having a working plan to acquire high amounts or even get infinite emeralds in Minecraft can surely make your life much easier.
How to Get Infinite Emeralds in Minecraft
Like in any game with an advanced trading economy, Minecraft’s trading mechanic, too, is not perfect. We’re going to exploit the discounts players get from curing zombie villagers to get two specific trades from two different villagers that can take three emeralds and turn them into 8.
The Things You Need
- 2 cured zombie villagers (2 splash potions of weakness and 2 golden apples)
- A lectern
- A cartography table
- About 200 papers
- 6 books
- Crafting Table

Step 1: Cure Two Zombie Villagers
Zombie villagers give much better deals than regular villagers, and that additional discount is vital for that method to work.
Heal two zombie villagers. If you don’t know how to cure villagers you can read about it here.
Step 2: Turn Them Into a Cartographer and a Librarian
Put a lectern next to one to turn him into a librarian, and a cartography table next to the other to make him a cartographer.
Step 3: Level Them Up
We need the librarian to reach the apprentice level to unlock the glass panes trade and the cartographer to reach the journeyman level.
Cartographer
In order to level up the cartographer, you’ll need to complete 5 paper trades or buy 10 maps from him.
Once he gets to the apprentice level, the glass panes trade will unlock.
Librarian
There are a few options to level up the librarian to the journeyman level. The cheapest one is to perform 5 paper trades, and once he levels up, perform another 7 book trades.
Unfortunately, you have only a 67% chance to unlock the glass blocks trade from a journeyman librarian, and if it isn’t unlocked – you have to start again with a different librarian.
Step 5: Start Trading
The default trades are as follows:
- The librarian will take one emerald in exchange for 4 glass blocks.
- The cartographer will take 4-5 glass panes in exchange for an emerald.
We’ll buy glass blocks from the librarian, turn them into glass panes and sell those to the cartographer.
12 glass blocks cost 3 emeralds (which you already have from leveling the villagers). The 12 glass blocks turn into 32 glass panes, which then can be sold to a cartographer for anything between 5-8 emeralds (depending on the exact trade that was unlocked).
Step 6: Repeat
With each trading cycle, you can do 10 glass block trades and 10 glass pane trades. Meaning, you can earn up to 40 emeralds on average twice a day, with some glass blocks left to save some emeralds in the next cycles.
You can lower their trades even further by re-zombifying and healing the cartographer until he’ll take only one glass pane.
Finishing Thoughts
Today we learned how to take advantage of the trading system to get infinite emeralds in Minecraft. If you worry that this is some sort of bug, don’t be, because according to the official bug records, this was intended.
